My Foster Cats

Over the years I have had many cats come in and out of my life through fostering. Here are a few of them along with their stories.

Maggie

Maggie came to me along with her sister Black Kitty from the Boulder Humane Society. They both needed to be fostered until they were big enough to get spayed. Both were very healthy, so it came to a real surprise when Black Kitty died. As I type this, her ashes sit near by. I will never forget her face and how she looked at me as her life was slowly slipping away. Maggie was a real comfort to me during this time. She was so full of life and energy. There wasn't a safe roll of toilet paper in the house! She loved to play and attack anything that moved. She also felt that the computer belonged to her and would decide that she needed to sit on the keyboard while I was trying to type.

Maggie just loved to play with the others. Here you can see her playing with Nutmeg aka "momma kitty". Momma Kitty also came from the Humane Society. She had a litter of 5 kittens who all died. She is still with me because she is not considered adoptable since she is not friendly and is very afraid of people.

It was hard to take Maggie back. I had grown very attached to her and also she was my link to her sister. Thinking about her death will make me cry for a long time to come. Maggie only spent a few days at the shelter before she was adopted by from what I am told, I very nice guy. I hope that she and her new human will be very happy together for many years to come.

Ms Black Kitty

3/01-5/01

I will never forget you

Icon

Sweet little Icon. When I got him, he was full of nasty fleas and real thin. I gave him a bath and he felt better after that. As time passed, Icon really blossomed. He was so playful. He liked to hang out on the computer, hence the name Icon.  He used to sit on top of the monitor and watch me work. Sad to say, I came home one day after work to find Icon dead. He had decided that the Television cord was something fun to chew on and was electrocuted. Icon had a short life, but a good one. I'm really glad that I got to be a part of it.

The Tiny babies

These two little guys were so small when I got them. I had to bottle feed them about every 3 hours or so. It didn't take long and they were starting to eat regular food. I am happy to say that they found a home together.

Athena

This is my latest foster, Athena. She isn't as much of a terror as Maggie was but still very playful. When I first brought her home, she showed no fear of the other cats and just made herself at home. When it is time to eat, she has no problem pushing her why in to get some. She also is  very vocal when she wants something. She will sit there and just meow at me until I do what she wants.

Athena Just loves to stretch   out on the couch and take up all the room. She believes that everything in the house belongs to her.

Three Sisters

Today I got 3 new foster kittens. They are all girls from the same litter. They were brought into the shelter by people who didn't want them. I sure wish they would spay their cat. Then they wouldn't have this problem

As you can see, two of them look very much alike. The other one is a brown tabby. I need to think of names for them.

10-31-01  It is with heavy heart that I say, the two above did not make it. They both became very ill with URI and developed bacterial ammonia ( hope I spelled that right). It was very hard to go through with them. I didn't want to watch them suffer anymore, so I did the last kind thing I could do for them. I gave them back their peace, freedom and dignity.

Mandy, the one that made it is doing very well and should be ready for adoption soon.

11-24-02 Picture of Mandy today. I ended up keeping her. After all I went through with her 2 sisters, I just didn't have the heart to give her up. I'm going to be taking a bit of a break from rescue and fostering. Its been a real hard last couple of years.
